Nothing ruins a pleasant driving experience in your new Land Rover Range Rover Sport like getting stuck at red light after red light. We’re no strangers to the woes of traffic lights here in the greater Chicagoland area. Luckily, Land Rover automakers are working on a solution.

Land Rover automakers are always leading the pack when it comes to developing new vehicle technology that makes us safer and makes driving more convenient. Their latest project is called the Green Light Optimal Speed Advisory (GLOSA) system, and it’s currently being tested as part of the British governments UK Autodrive initiative.

Jaguar Land Rover has previously worked on other projects as part of the initiative such as the Intersection Collision Warning (alerting you potential dangers), Intersection Priority Management (determines which vehicle has the right of way), and Emergency Vehicle Warning (alerts you to upcoming emergency vehicles).

The GLOSA system uses vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology to talk to upcoming connected traffic lights and gives the driver information on the best speed to travel to avoid getting caught at a red light.

“This cutting-edge technology will radically reduce the time we waste at traffic lights,” said Jaguar Land Rover connected technology engineer Oriol Quintana-Morales, according to “It has the potential to revolutionize driving by creating safe, free-flowing cities that take the stress out of commuting. Our research is motivated by the chance to make future journeys as comfortable and stress-free as possible for all our customers.”

We’re incredibly excited to see future Land Rover SUVs for sale come equipped with this technology, and we’ll keep you posted as we learn more. For now, please stop by our Northfield Range Rover dealership to shop new models and for expert Land Rover service.
