With the arrival of the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque here at Land Rover Northfield, we now find ourselves eagerly awaiting the next 2020 installment into the Land Rover family. We’re talking about the upcoming 2020 Land Rover Defender. For the last several months we’ve gotten glimpses and tidbits regarding the return of the iconic SUV, and now, we’re getting a little bit more.

Recently, several European publications got the chance to test drive the Land Rover Defender at an event. During that same event, Andy Deeks, Land Rover product engineering team leader gave us a few more details.

One notable detail is that the 2020 Land Rover Defender includes two different suspension types, standard coils, and an optional air suspension."The air system actively monitors temperature in the dampers and protects the vehicle by changing the parameters of the suspension as you’re driving. But the coil car is still the most capable car in its class,” said Deeks, according to Carbuzz. Additionally, the Land Rover Terrain Response system is improved for the Land Rover Defender.

While you may not be taking the Land Rover Defender off-road every day in the Evanston and Northfield, IL area, the new model is built specifically to excel off-road thanks to its platform. "In our terminology 4B means it’s above any other production car, but below full military vehicle specification. The geometry and hardpoints are the same, but suspension members, bushes, front ball joints, and steering are all more durable and robust," Deeks explained.

Deeks also confirmed rumors that the 2020 Land Rover Defender will arrive in at least two body styles, a 90 (the two-door model) and a 110 (the four-door model).

We’ll keep you up to date on new Land Rover Defender information as we learn more. And we’ll be sure to let you know when you can test drive one. In the meantime, visit our Northfield Land Rover dealership today for all your vehicle needs.
