What's New: 2020 Land Rover Defender

1600 × 900
It’s been a long time coming, but we’re finally getting closer to the re-release of the iconic Land Rover Defender. Redesigning an icon is no easy feat, and it’s taken a long time to ensure that the automaker gets it right, but as we get closer to a release, we here at Land Rover Northfield are learning more and more; which we want to share with you.

Just as other Land Rover and Land Rover Range Rover models like the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Sport have changed in recent years, so has the new 2020 Land Rover Defender. It’s best to not think of the new Land Rover Defender as the same model you grew up loving; this is an all-new Land Rover Defender.

While keeping its boxy shape, the new 2020 model definitely stands out amongst the rest of the Land Rover Family, though it bears some resemblance to the 2019 Land Rover Discovery. The SUV is quite rectangular with rounded edges. The front fascia stands upright with a square grille sitting between the headlights and front vents. Slim-framed windows with blacked-out pillars give the roof a floating effect.

Underpinning the new Land Rover Defender is an adaption of the MLA platform, the same one that sits underneath both the current Land Rover Range Rover Sport and Land Rover Discovery. “Premium durability” is the new catchphrase when it comes to the interior cabin. Chunky, horizontal styling is evident, and while it’s still a Land Rover SUV, you’ll notice a different vibe here than you’d find in the Land Rover Range Rover Velar. The Land Rover Defender is all about business.

We’ll provide more details on the upcoming 2020 Land Rover Defender as we learn more, especially when it comes to powertrains and off-road capabilities. For now, visit our Northfield and Evanston, IL Land Rover dealership for all your needs.
