How to Change a Flat Tire

We all know how well-made Land Rover SUVs are, all the way down to their tires and off-road ability. However, tires do wear out over time, and in some cases, you may even encounter a flat tire while driving around the Northfield and Evanston, IL areas.

In the event of a flat tire, Land Rover Northfield is here to help. Our excellent Range Rover service center will replace your spare tire promptly and get you safely back on the road.

However, what do you do when you get a flat tire? We’re breaking down how to change your tire in a few easy steps.

The first step when you encounter a flat tire is to get to a safe location, preferably on flat ground. Once off to the side of the road, put your car in Park, engage the emergency brake, and turn on your hazard lights.

Next, you’ll need to locate your spare tire, tire jack, and tire iron. Consult your owners manual to see where the necessary equipment is stored. Once you have the spare tire, remove it from the car and check its pressure if you have a tire pressure gauge handy. It’s vital that your spare has enough air pressure.

Next, you need to loosen the wheel lugs with the tire iron. Loosen the lugs by turning the tire iron in a counterclockwise manner, but don’t remove them altogether. Once they’re loose enough to remove by hand, you’ll need to jack up your vehicle before you remove the tire.

With the vehicle jacked up, remove the flat tire and replace it with the spare, tightening the wheel lugs by hand until you can’t tighten further. Lower the SUV and remove the jack. Then, finish tightening the spare.

Once you have your spare safely on your vehicle, head to our Northfield Land Rover dealership to repair or replace your tire.
