As any Land Rover enthusiast will tell you, the forefathers of the current 2015 Range Rover was first released to the public in 1970. Since then, it's built up a reputation as one of the hardiest, yet most luxurious, SUVs in the world. Indeed, with a host of safety, technology, and off-road features, the 2015 Range Rover is the best version of the car yet. But did you know that before the first Range Rover vehicles were released to the public, the automaker came out with a number of prototypes to secretly test on the road? Well, one of those prototypes has recently resurfaced in the UK, and it is set to sell at an auction early next year.
While you won't be finding this pre-production Range Rover vehicle in our new Range Rover inventory at Land Rover Northfield anytime soon, we are still excited to catch a small glimpse of Range Rover history. The prototype Range Rover was given the name Range Rover Velar, an Italian word meaning “covered,” in order to disguise the heritage of the car. Land Rover spent four years working on the secret project in order to develop a luxury off-road vehicle for the motorway. The automaker wanted to create a vehicle that was capable of meeting the demands of driving in the countryside while providing the level of comfort and convenience associated with high-end luxury vehicles. To this day, Range Rover still maintains this philosophy with the 2015 Range Rover Northfield residents love.
The vintage Range Rover is going to auction early next year, and is expected to sell for around 30,000 British pounds.
