At Land Rover, the future is now. While new updates and new models are always exciting news for us Land Rover fans, it's new technologies that really get us worked up about the future of the brand. The latest news out of Land Rover headquarters involves a truly futuristic technology that involves reinventing how we interact with our Land Rover vehicles.
In the past, the button-focused dashboard has been a given on all new vehicles, but now, things like voice control are changing how the driver interacts with the vehicle. In new Land Rover vehicles in Winnetka and nearby Northbrook, like the Range Rover Sport, drivers can control technologies such as navigation, climate control, and audio control with their voices.
Sure, voice control is innovative and futuristic on its own, but scientists are hard at work at developing gesture, eye, and face tracking options. According to Dai Jones, Jaguar Land Rover's senior research manager, the car of the future will be able to track where you are and automatically adjust your seating position, seat temperature, radio station on the stereo, and more just by looking at your face. Eye gestures technology will allow you to look at certain parts of the car to turn on relevant displays like navigation or climate control.
Currently, Land Rover is experimenting with eye tracking and facial recognition technology that is used by Samsung on the Galaxy S4. We don't know when this technology will actually be implemented in its vehicles, but speculators think it could debut with the new Land Rover Discovery family that's been teased.
