When you think of Land Rover vehicles, one of the first things that comes to mind is their rugged off-road capabilities. Of course, this is what Land Rover vehicles were originally designed for, but over the years, they have become more and more suitable for navigating cities and suburbs such as Winnetka. One Los Angeles entrepreneur is taking Land Rover's urbanization one step further by purchasing old Land Rover Defender vehicles from the 1980s and fixing them up to make them suitable for driving in an urban environment.

Here at your Winnetka Land Rover dealership, we're enthralled by a story of Matt Perlman, whose business, West Coast Defenders, has refurbished and sold more than 30 Land Rover Defender vehicles from the mid-1980s. The Defender, which was discontinued several years ago in the United States, has nonetheless remained a cult car all over the country. Perlman tracks down good prospects in Europe, Asia, and Africa, and then fixes anything on the vehicle, based on what the new owner wants, whether that's a new transmission, suspension, or a helpful navigation system.

With new Range Rover cars, Chicago and Winnetka drivers get a combination of off-road prowess and interior luxuries, but the old Land Rover Defender was almost exclusively made for traversing the wilderness. In fact, it was the success of the old Land Rover Defender vehicles that made it possible for cars like the Land Rover LR4 and the Range Rover to get made in the first place. Perlman says that the buyers of the vehicles at his shop are more into the rugged image of the Defender than making use of its off-road capabilities, as the Defender has been showing up in the hands of celebrities in recent years.
