Land Rover production has hit 6 million vehicles, a remarkable number for an automaker that began its life as a side project of a moderately famous engineer. In order to celebrate this impressive milestone, Land Rover gave vehicle number 6 million a special design feature. Although we won't be getting this car at our Land Rover dealer, Northbrook-area residents should appreciate the company's growth into one of the world's premier automakers.
The 6 millionth Land Rover vehicles was produced at the company's Solihull United Kingdom facility, 110 miles northwest of London. It's appropriate that it was created at this facility, because Land Rover has been making vehicles here since the company's inception in 1948. The milestone vehicle has been dubbed the Yulong White Range Rover LWB Vogue SE, and it has a one-of-a-kind puddle-lamp graphic motif that replaces the standard Range Rover silhouette projected by the puddle lamps.
The new image will be created by an inscribed lens within the door-mirror-mounted downlight and will display the Land Rover logo. The moment the 6 millionth vehicle exited the production line that same graphic was projected onto the wall of the Solihull production facility, in celebrating of this milestone. The vehicle was then shipped to China, where it was displayed at the Shanghai Auto Show and will be eventually sold to a lucky buyer. According to Andy Goss of Land Rover, “With the growth of sales in China since the latest version of the Range Rover was introduced in 2002, it is entirely appropriate that this landmark vehicle is destined for a Chinese customer.”
