Land Rover has always been its automaker with an eye on the future. When it comes to cutting-edge in-car technologies, Land Rover is often among the first automakers to adopt it, and sometimes the one that pioneers it. The latest news out of Land Rover headquarters over in the UK involves autonomous and connected technology aimed to make the driving experience more seamless than ever before. Here at Land Rover Northfield, we are happy to announce that Land Rover will create a fleet of over 100 research vehicles over the next few years to test autonomous and connected technology.

Autonomous cars, also known as self-driving cars, are widely seen as the future of automobiles. Companies like Land Rover are hard at work on testing technology that powers autonomous cars, and safety is a top priority. According to the government, the market for self-driving cars is worth $1.29 trillion worldwide, so there is also a financial incentive for Land Rover to get involved. Engineers at Land Rover will drive the test models on a new 41-mile test route on motorways and urban roads near its UK headquarters and plants in central England.

The long-distance plan for Land Rover is to have self-driving new Land Rover cars on the roads by 2020, four years from now. According to Jaguar Land Rover’s Head of Research Tony Harper, the firm’s technology, which includes a three-dimensional advanced view of the street ahead to recognize barriers and radio signal communication between cars, could reduce hazards. He stated, “Our connected and automated technology could help improve traffic flow, cut congestion, and reduce the potential for accidents.”
