Advancing the Land Rover Defender Line

Land Rover SUVs not only sit at the top of the market for being the best luxury off- and on-road SUVs available today, but they’ve evolved quite a bit over the last several years. New models like the 2018 Range Rover Velar show the ingenuity of the automaker’s design and craftsmanship. It’s this rigorous attention to detail that makes us at Land Rover Northfield enjoy these vehicles so much, but it’s also why we can find ourselves waiting for the return of a favorite model. In this case, that model is the Land Rover Defender.

The Land Rover Defender is an off-road icon and while traversing snowy mountainsides isn’t very common in the greater Chicagoland area, that doesn’t mean we want one any less. The return of the vehicle is a hot topic, and the automaker knows it. That’s why they want to get it right.

Recently, Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth told CarAdvice “Technology is going to be mandatory in the new [Land Rover] Defender. You simply can’t build this kind of vehicle without it anymore. You can’t achieve the emissions levels and you cannot achieve the CO2 levels required of vehicles these days."

Emissions aren’t the only areas of concern when it comes to making the new Land Rover Defender. It needs to appeal to a wide audience and come with a modern design complete with all the latest technology and driver-assistance features we expect such a vehicle to have.

All this work and dedication is going toward more than a re-introduced Land Rover Defender model, however. The automaker plans to create a whole line of Land Rover Defender models to parallel the Land Rover Discovery and Range Rover SUV lines.

We’ll keep you up to date on new developments regarding the return of the Land Rover Defender. For now, visit our Northfield Land Rover dealership to shop the latest models or get the best Land Rover service available.
