While Land Rover vehicles are known for traversing all ends of the Earth, they are about to enter a new frontier: space. This may sound preposterous, but Land Rover is a company that has proven over and over again that there are no limits to what it can do. Here at Land Rover Winnetka, your home for a Land Rover for sale near Chicago, we have heard that the latest news out of Land Rover headquarters is that the automaker is partnering with Richard Branson's company, Virgin Galactic.

As a species, we don't appear to be close to colonizing the rest of the solar system, but that didn't stop Richard Branson from forming the space tourism outfit, Virgin Galactic. The aim of the company is to provide suborbital spaceflights to space tourists, suborbital launches for space science missions, and orbital launches of small satellites. In 2009, he unveiled the rocket plane SpaceShip Two, which is the vessel that will transporting space tourists into orbit.

Where does Land Rover factor into all of this. Well, just last week, the company became the first sponsor of Virgin Galactic. The announcement was huge event, taking place on the abroad the retired US aircraft carrier Intrepid, which is now the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum. We're not exactly sure what this partnership entails quite yet, but it is likely to include adding the Land Rover name to the spacecraft's fuselage during its maiden voyage into space later this year.

It's hard to say whether or not Virgin Galactic will end up being a successful company, but it's certainly exciting to think about a future where space tourism is an option. Either way, Land Rover is right in the thick of another exciting technological innovation.
