We're currently in the year 2014, but with the technological concept that Land Rover just unveiled, you'd think this was the year 2025 already. Coming straight off the pages of a science fiction novel, the new Virtual Windshield concept is something that we had always imagined and hoped might be possible, but weren't holding on breath for. Well, leave it to the scientists at Land Rover to innovate and create something that most people thought was the stuff of dreams.
The Virtual Windshield concept is still under heavy development, but here at Land Rover Winnetka, we have been able to figure out the first few details of the concept. With the Virtual Windshield enabled, when you're driving down the road in Winnetka or any other place, you'll be able to see the hazard, speed, and navigation information projected onto the windshield. For more performance-oriented activities, racing line and braking guidance will also appear alongside ghost cars and virtual cones.
What's more, the automaker has also unveiled a gesture control system that aims to minimize the amount of button pressing. What this all means for everyday drivers coming into our Land Rover dealer near Highland Park is that in the near future, they won't have to glance at a dashboard screen every time they want to access their navigation or check their speed. According to Land Rover Director of Research and Technology Dr. Wolfgang Epple, “we have identified which features need to be controlled by physical buttons and which could be controlled by gesture and carefully calibrated motion sensors. The system is currently being tested on a number of features, including sun blinds, rear wipers, and satellite navigation maps.”
