Land Rover is an automaker that is never satisfied with the status quo and is always aiming to innovate, whether it's with brand new models, new technologies in its existing vehicles, or new powertrains under the hood. This dedication to constant innovation came through clearly in the company's most recent press conference, where it announced an exciting future direction that involves a massive expansion of new vehicles, the likes of which haven't ever been seen from the British SUV-maker.
Here at your local Range Rover dealer, Northbrook and Winnetka drivers already are treated to a huge selection of new and pre-ownedLand Rover vehicles. However, “Car Magazine” is reporting that Land Rover is laying the groundwork to create a completely new line of models for the Defender and Discovery lines, effectively creating new sub-families under the Land Rover badge. Right now, the Range Rover brand is one of the most popular Land Rover families, but in the future it will be joined by the Defender and Discovery, with each of the three families having a distinct characteristic.
The future Range Rover vehicles are expected to continue to operate as a luxury sub-brand. The Discovery brand will be all about leisure, which is a concept that Land Rover started experimenting with when the Discovery Sport was planned. The upcoming Defender line is made for those old-school Land Rover devotees who value the vehicle's off-roading prowess. A Land Rover executive described the Defender as being the dual-purpose sub-brand that will be markedly different from the Range Rover and Discovery brands. It will be extremely durable and retain the utilitarian spirit that began with the very first Land Rover vehicles.
