Even though Land Rover vehicles have made a huge impact here in the United States, it's important to remember that the automaker originated across the pond, in the United Kingdom. One sport that the Brits tend to enjoy more than us Americans is rugby. This year, the Rugby World Cup is taking place in Twickenham, England on October, and the latest news out of the Land Rover headquarters is that Land Rover will be the official vehicle partner for the tournament.
Here at your local Northfield Land Rover dealership, we have learned that the main term of the partnership between Land Rover and the Rugby World Cup is that the automaker will provide 450 vehicles to support the tournament. The vehicles will be used to provide transport for match officials, event support staff, and VIPs for the duration of the 44-day event. Throughout this time, the Land Rover cars are expected to cover a total of 650,000 miles, which is enough to drive around the world 26 times.
The Rugby World Cup's choice of Land Rover to transport the best of the sport illustrates that Land Rover vehicles are created for comfort and interior luxury, as well as their trademarked off-road prowess. The four vehicles that were chosen for the fleet are the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover Sport, and 2016 Land Rover Range Rover. To mark this momentous event, Land Rover created a unique installation using 450 Land Rover keys suspended in the shape of a rugby ball. According to Jon Wackett, fleet and business general manager at Land Rover, “Discovery Sport is the perfect vehicle to lead the fleet as its compact dimensions, flexible 5+2 seating, and advanced connectivity features provide versatility and capability in equal measure.”
