2015 was a banner year for Land Rover. Outside of releasing well-received new vehicles like the 2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport, the automaker has proved its mettle by continuing to push its vehicles into the future with new techologies, new powertrains, and increased off-road capabilities. Clearly, drivers from Northfield and beyond responded positively to Land Rover's continued innovation, as 2015 proved to be a record-setting sales year for the automaker.

If you look deep into the sales numbers, you'll see that Land Rover sold a total of 70,852 vehicles in the United States last year, which represents an astounding 37 percent increase over 2014. This massive increase was the largest by any automaker in the United States last year, as the industry saw its sales as a whole increase by 5.2 percent. There's no doubt that falling fuel prices and the steadily improving economy played a role in this, but the main catalyst for these incredible sales are the vehicles themselves.

Looking at which individual Land Rover cars helped the sales increase 37 percent, we can see that the new 2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport played a huge role. Smaller and more affordable than all the other SUVs in the Land Rover lineup, the Discovery Sport represented 10 percent of Land Rover's total sales in 2015. According to Jaguar Land Rover CEO Joe Eberhardt, this car brought a new type of customer to the brand.
