A premium Land Rover vehicle is a thing of beauty on the road. However, are you prepared to deal with the worst-case scenario, when your battery dies, leaving you stranded? Our Land Rover service experts can help. Courtesy of Land Rover Northfield, here’s what you need to know to jump-start your vehicle’s battery.

Position Your Land Rover with a Donor Vehicle

Once you have recruited a donor driver with a working battery, position the two vehicles nose-to-nose, leaving enough room to work.

Prepare to Jump

Open the hoods of both your Land Rover vehicle and the donor vehicle. Connect the red clamp of the jumper cables to the positive terminal of your dead battery, being very careful not to let the black clamp touch anything metal.

Now, connect the red clamp on the other end of the cable to the positive (red) terminal of the functioning battery and the black clamp to the negative terminal of that same battery. When those clamps are secure, take the black clamp near your dead battery and connect it to a convenient bare metal part of your engine block — not the negative terminal of the dead battery!

Start Your Engines

Once you’re confident all of the clamps are secure and the cables are safely away from any vulnerable components, start the engine on the functioning vehicle and let it run for about five minutes. If your Land Rover vehicle starts successfully, carefully remove the clamps in the reverse order without letting them touch and keep your vehicle running for at least 15 minutes. Whether it starts or not, proceed to Land Rover Northfield so our technicians can inspect and replace your battery to make sure it won’t happen again any time soon.
